Then I thought about it. Well, there’s that… and that… but nothing could ignite more sparks (particularly this time of year) than dissing traditional holiday fare. I wouldn’t dream of it. I love that sweet potato stuff and that casserole-y thing-y. (Smirk.) I think there’s nothing strange… nothing strange at all… about suddenly finding ingredients on the grocery store shelves that look and sound like they time-traveled here from the 1950’s (“candied yams,” “sausage rolls,” and “cranberries in jelly”). Oh and the rich abundance of brown-hued foods that we douse in more brown… now, tell me that’s not appealing!
But just in case you’re inclined to agree with that horrifying person who would knock the traditional holiday feast, I prepared this roster of recipes for you. I also prepared this roster for the daredevil that might want to add one or two new dishes to their holiday spread. Or maybe you’re the fleeting nostalgic—you like Great Grandma’s old recipes ONCE a year (none of this leftovers-for-days business). Well, here you go! I’m so mad I could write you a recipe… or 8!
8 Recipes for Off-Scripting Your Holiday Feast:
- Brown Butter Brussels Sprouts with Feta & Pine Nut Crumble: A non-traditional, but crowd-pleasing take on Brussels.
- Fall Provençal Pasta: For those pesky vegetarian foodies that keep multiplying around your holiday table.
- Salty-Sweet Roasted Potatoes with Parmesan: In case you decide to roast vs. mash… risky, but worth it!
- Chicken Sausage, Potato & Wheat Berry Soup: Great post-day soup that’s—thankfully—not turkey.
- Brown Sugar & Herb Crusted Pork Tenderloin: A decidedly healthier alternative to ham.
- Feta Marinated Chicken: Winner, winner chicken dinner!
- White Bean & Kale Salad with Lemony Dijon Vinaigrette: It’s red, white, and green so it fits the bill.
- Oatmeal Ganache Sandwich Cookies: A grand finale to complement any pie.
